The move

The fold gives half its width to a single lowercase g at 250px, sitting on real metric lines with the baseline flooded acid yellow and dashed sidebearings either side, captioned with its weight and optical size. Underneath, two live axis sliders read 620 and 18 pt, so the hero is a working specimen rather than a picture of one. The licence table prices a student licence at free and says to just ask.

What Inspo gave it

The captures it studied, and exactly what each one contributed.

  • klim-co-nz - The deepest study of the three. A real foundry running near-monochrome geometry in boundless negative space with a single hot accent doing all the branding. Setwidth's restraint, its hairline-ruled weight ramp and its refusal to decorate the fold all come from here.

  • camelot-typefaces-com - Where the acid yellow came from. Camelot uses #faf20a as a flood fill rather than as text colour, which is exactly how this page uses it: behind the baseline in the glyph study, inside the axis sliders, and on nav hover. Never on type, because it would fail contrast.

  • Fontshare — Changelog - A real font-catalogue index. Contributed the weight-ramp convention: one specimen line per weight, the weight name held small at the left margin, and a hairline between each row instead of a card.

How it was built

The actual MCP calls, in order.

  1. recommend
an independent type foundry releasing a variable grotesk: specimen-led, austere, one accent (macrostructure: type-specimen)

Passed the macrostructure explicitly rather than letting it be inferred, which skipped the pick step and returned three genuine foundries: Klim, Camelot and Fontshare. Between them they settled the palette, the ramp and the level of restraint before a line was written.

Palette, traced

Every token, and the reference it came from.

  • --paper#f4f3f0Warm near-white. A specimen page is read for a long time at large sizes, so the ground stays quiet and slightly off-white.
  • --ink#111110Near-black for the grotesk itself. The whole page is one typeface at nine weights; the colour has to stay out of the way.
  • --acid#e4e400Acid yellow, used only as a fill: the baseline band behind the glyph, the axis slider tracks, and nav hover. Lifted from Camelot, which uses its yellow the same way and never as text.
  • --muted#78766fWarm grey for metric labels, weight names and the licence table's second column.
  • --paper-2#eae8e3A half-step deeper paper for the character-set band and the slider troughs.
  • --rule#d8d5cdHairlines between ramp rows and table rows. The heavier structural borders are drawn in ink at 1.5px.
