Crop health index

Read the index the way an agronomist does.

NDVI compares how much red light the canopy absorbs with how much near-infrared it bounces back. Healthy leaves absorb red and reflect infrared hard, so the number climbs. Overpass shows the raw value and, next to it, what it usually means for the crop you are growing.

Peak season. The index saturates here, so Overpass switches to a red-edge index to keep separating the top of the field from the very top.

Every value on the map is atmospherically corrected and cloud-masked before you see it. Pixels under thin haze are flagged rather than guessed. The formula is the standard one, (nir - red) / (nir + red), computed from bands 8 and 4 at 10 m, and you can download the underlying reflectances for any pass.

Overpass also runs a moisture index and a chlorophyll index on the same pass. They live one tap away from the map and share the same season timeline, so a dip in one is always seen alongside the others.

Common questions

What happens when it is cloudy for weeks?

Cloudy passes are skipped, not guessed. The timeline shows them as hollow dots so you know the gap is real. In a wet spring the Grower plan's tasked passes can be pulled forward, and the moisture index still reads through thin haze.

How do I get my field boundaries in?

Draw them on the map, upload the boundary file from your existing farm software, or send us your subsidy claim map and we will trace it for you within a day.

Does the zone file work with my tractor?

Yes. Overpass exports the open format every current terminal reads, plus the older shapefile if your kit predates it. Each zone carries the rate you set, so the spreader just runs the job.

Who owns the data about my fields?

You do. The satellite imagery is public; the boundaries, history and alerts are yours, and you can export or delete them at any time. We never sell field-level data to anyone.
